Every plant has insects that feed on it, and the smell of those plants attracts the type of insects that feed on it. I plant Marigolds around the swimming pool every year because they look nice. I have not noticed a reduction in insects. Last year I collected the seeds and sowed them in the garden. I had Marigolds everywhere, between rows, plants, everywhere. It did not reduce the insect population any. It did look very nice and I kept seeds to do it again this year.<br><b>References : </b><br> Old wives tales. I've planted the old fashioned marigolds around my tomato patch for years... does it help?..
