it’s kind of a tossup… beleive it works or don’t…. personally, I think it’s the smell of them that goofs up the bugs that smell ‘goodies’…. if all they can smell is marigolds, they don’t know there’s a squash plant over there, too!.. ya know?… it’s the same with deer and Irish Spring soap… if all they smell is the soap, they don’t know your hostas are there!…..

I’ve planted the old fashioned marigolds around my tomato patch for years… does it help?.. I dunno… but the smell of both of them ‘takes me home’ to Grandma’s truck patch!!… ahhhhhh….

I don’t know about planting them with veggies but I always use marigolds on and around my porch. They are a natural mosquito repellent.

In theory, it will deter some pests, but I don’t think it really makes much difference.

I was told they repel rabbits, but it didn’t work for me.

Old wives tales. Every plant has insects that feed on it, and the smell of those plants attracts the type of insects that feed on it.

I plant Marigolds around the swimming pool every year because they look nice. I have not noticed a reduction in insects.

Last year I collected the seeds and sowed them in the garden. I had Marigolds everywhere, between rows, plants, everywhere. It did not reduce the insect population any.

It did look very nice and I kept seeds to do it again this year.

simple Answer No. marigolds tend to attract slugs aphids and whiteflies, so its not a good idea to have them close to vegtables, the part about them deterring pests is a myth
